Due to my mum living in a caravan in my backyard, I'm unable to host from home during the day. Working at nights far easier if you need to utilise a hotel room, but then do you try and book in advance and have tricks pay a deposit so you know they're going to turn up? I've tried several different way of navigating how I work. It didn't sit well with me having management who pretended to be me, and took all the bookings and session types and then also took half of what I earnt in a day. The only good thing about that was not having to deal with dickheads. The downside was they did all the advertising, they controlled everything even what time I would start and stop work. As I was in Sydney for 3 days I wanted to make as much as I possibly could, but turns out they were running an illegal brothel. I've got a mate who is doing home reno's and lives alone who is going to let me rent out a room in his house during the day while hes at work - but he wants 25% of my earnings - that doesn't sit right with me. He is only providing a space, he isn't taking bookings or going to be inconvenienced by me being there, he's going to earn money which he wouldn't otherwise be. I said to him to come up with either a daily or weekly rent fee or he can have 10% of my earnings, then I thought, hang on, room rental and electricity/using water ok lets go to 20% but that wasn't enough he wants 25% for supplying a room that's it - no towels, no sheets, no bed, no bathroom for that matter, its out in the garage. I'd love to hear from other independents and the deals they have with whom and for what, and what do you all think out there reading this? Is 25% reasonable and I'm the unreasonable one in this scenario
