Welcome to Bigger Sister Channel!
Launched March 8th 2023, Bigger Sister Channel is a community project started by a small group of passionate sex workers in Australia, that aims to deliver the skills, knowledge, resources and tools sex workers need for safe and sustainable life and work. Our first program aims to economically empower sex workers.
What are the values of Bigger Sister Channel?
1. Financial sustainability
We invest in our community project’s future by recognising, celebrating, and compensating everyone who contributes to Bigger Sister Channel.
2. Harm-minimisation
We ensure that our content is accurate, appropriately dated, contextualised, of high quality, and accessible to minimise harm wherever it may present during a worker’s life.
3. Collaboration
We know that community connection and coordination within and outside the industry is key to success. That’s why we collaborate with leaders, experts, tools, products, services, and any other stakeholder to increase collective impact in achieving our vision.
4. In good faith
Bigger Sister Channel reviews products and services, makes recommendations, and has discussions in good faith to create tangible content with practical outcomes. We don’t pretend to be something we are not, nor do we engage in topics with a mean spirit.
5. Responsibility
Everyone involved with Bigger Sister Channel takes responsibility for how their actions or words may affect other people. This includes taking responsibility for how you apply content to your daily life, you are much more an expert in your life than we are.
Why are we using Substack to bring you a blog?
- A blog is accessible to those who may use screen readers or better understand the written word. Bigger Sister Channel strives to be accessible to all of our community.
- Different modes of content are crucial to make sure we reach all areas of the industry. Maybe videos aren’t for you but you interact better with written resources.
Bigger Sister Channel is our platform to share our insights, knowledge, expertise, and stories with the wider community. We believe that anyone, including sex workers, can contribute to be a ‘Bigger Sister’ delivering lessons that can positively impact the community through peer education.
Economic empowerment for sex workers
Bigger Sister Channel’s first approach is to economically empower sex workers. Bigger Sister Channel will help you build systems to sustain financial health and prevent you from falling into financial insecurity.
We will do this by:
- Delivering regular social media content and videos.
- A community podcast interviewing an expert sex worker on their topic of expertise and financial experiences.
- Consulting with and reviewing financial products to make them easier to access and safer for the community.
- Regular blog posts.
- Interviews with financial experts and professionals (accountants, tax agents, brokers and so on)
- Skillsharing workshops spaces.
At Bigger Sister Channel, you’re our champions, sex workers of all walks of life, who are looking to economically empower themselves and their peers.

Since launching we have released multiple videos to our Youtube and Twitter introducing you to our channel. Our first video by Estelle explains in detail who is Bigger Sister, what is Bigger Sister, and how the channel is led to help you, our community.
Who is Estelle Lucas, you might be asking? Estelle shares their story here. A sex worker of 14 years, in 2022 they won the Kenneth Myer Innovation Fellowship. With this Fellowship, they have worked on community building and research.
It was through this community building and research that they discovered sex worker safety needs to be approached holistically and there is no one solution fits all. Estelle’s research suggests that economic empowerment is one step towards achieving safety in the workplace for sex workers. Not only can economic empowerment benefit sex workers no matter what area of the industry they are in, but it helps sex workers mitigate risks and build on it for the rest of their days.
Over the past week we have also followed Estelle tracking their expenses and income in a frank and down to earth manner. In these videos Estelle discusses how sex workers income can fluctuate, one week you’re up, the next you’re down.
