I Choose Safe Sex Always
ShareI have been asked whether I offer bareback services (sex without a condom)
I know Australia has relatively low rates of HIV and some other STIs, but it only takes one person to infect multiple people. A negative test result isn't a guarantee that someone is completely risk-free! People can still be in the "window period", the time between being exposed to an infection and when it can actually be detected on a test.
Someone could sleep with a person who has an STI, get tested the next day, receive a negative result, and genuinely believe they're "clean" when the infection simply hasn't shown up yet. They then continue having unprotected sex, potentially passing it on without even knowing.
Regular testing is important, but so is understanding that tests have limitations. Safe sex isn't about mistrust or ruining the mood, it's about protecting yourself and your partners.
It only takes one person, one encounter, and one missed infection to change multiple lives.
