Lately I’ve been thinking about something that most people probably wouldn’t think about very often…if ever. A reliable car isn’t a luxury in my line of work. It’s how I get to appointments, run errands, and keep my life together. So when something goes wrong with the car, finding an affordable mechanic becomes a huge priority. Right now I’ve tried more places than I can possibly count and nowhere can get me an appointment within the timeframe I need,infact 1week away is the earliest I could get! Like anyone else trying to make ends meet, I’ve found myself wondering whether there are mechanics out there who might be open to different payment arrangements. Sometimes that simply means paying cash like normal. Other times, depending on what they’re comfortable with and what they’re requesting, it might involve discussing a combination of cash and my professional services. The funny thing is, people hear that and immediately jump to conclusions. But at the end of the day, escorting is my work. Other people barter skills all the time if you think about it…tradies swap labour, hairdressers exchange appointments, photographers trade shoots for advertising. Yet when sex work is involved, suddenly people act as though it’s shocking. Of course, consent and respect are everything. Nobody should ever feel pressured, and both people need to be completely comfortable with whatever arrangement is discussed. Communication and boundaries matter more than anything.
To be honest, though, I’d much rather just pay a fair price and know my car is being looked after properly. Sometimes asking for help as a sex worker feels complicated enough without worrying about being judged, overcharged, or treated differently because of what I do for a living. At the end of the day, I’m not looking for special treatment. I’m just someone trying to keep my car running, pay my bills, and get through life like everyone else.…Maybe that’s the part people forget most about escorts: behind the job title are ordinary people dealing with ordinary problems…
